Our history

Established in 1999 in Madison, Wisconsin, as the Long Term Care Institute, we initially focused on providing specialized services to long-term care facilities. Over the years, we’ve expanded our expertise to serve the broader healthcare industry and have developed cloud-based products that help organizations streamline their compliance processes. In 2024, we rebranded as Verity to reflect our growth and align with our core values of honesty and integrity.

Our team

Erik Stegemann

Erik Stegemann joined Verity as a founding team member in 2001 and earned his undergrad degree in behavioral science and law at the University of Wisconsin–Madison shortly thereafter.

As an undergrad student, Erik worked for the Center for Health Systems Research and Analysis, supporting projects and contracts developing and testing the initial Quality Indicators (now called Quality Measures) used by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; these Quality Measures are still used today to provide quality improvement and comparison data for long-term care health consumers and providers. He also contributed to projects related to updating the survey (oversight audit) process used by state regulatory agencies to ensure health care consumers receive safe, quality care.

Erik has played a crucial role in helping Verity grow. He holds a master’s in business administration with a focus on health care systems from the Rochester Institute of Technology, which helps guide him in his operational and project management efforts, including:

  • Supervising staff teams traveling and operating in the field
  • Managing federal, state and private contracts
  • Coordinating and managing the development of a web-based reporting, data management and analysis scheduling system
  • Directing overall business operations

In 2015, Erik brought his broad experience and specialized expertise to Verity’s executive team. He understands the needs, goals and intricacies of multiple types of healthcare facilities (long-term care, assisted living, etc.), as well as key components of quality care and safety. Erik provides every Verity client with thorough, thoughtful and effective solutions to optimize quality and safety.

Nadya Shewczyk

Nadya Shewczyk joined Verity in 2018, bringing with her approximately 15 years of valuable experience in the healthcare industry.

As a trusted leader and advisor to CEOs and boards of directors, Nadya excels at identifying and proactively addressing potential challenges. She provides clients with practical and timely legal guidance, helping them minimize risk and achieve optimal patient care outcomes. Nadya encourages collaboration among stakeholders, guiding them towards effective solutions.

A 2oo4 graduate of Marquette University Law School, Nadya began her career as a trial attorney specializing in healthcare law. She represented a wide range of providers, including physicians, clinics and long-term care facilities, in matters such as malpractice, licensing and business disputes. Her dedication resulted in numerous successful outcomes for her clients. During this time, she developed a deep passion for healthcare and recognized the unique value she could bring to the industry.

After nearly a decade as a trial attorney, Nadya expanded her expertise by joining Extendicare Healthcare Services, Inc., as associate general counsel. In this role, she provided day-to-day legal support, reviewed contracts and collaborated closely with senior leadership. She also played a crucial role in the successful transition of their U.S. operations.

Following her time at Extendicare, Nadya continued to serve the post-acute care sector in various leadership roles, including director and assistant general counsel, and ultimately, vice president and chief compliance officer. A key achievement was the successful launch of a comprehensive compliance and privacy program for a major Wisconsin-based provider.

Currently, Nadya is an important member of Verity’s executive team. Her strategic problem-solving approach, combined with her innovative thinking, makes her an invaluable asset to our clients as they navigate the evolving healthcare landscape.
